INT. HITLER'S QUARTERS - NIGHT (LATER)
Hitler, seated at his desk in a bamboo swivel chair, stares
coldly as Hi is brought in by Kegel. Dorsch stands nearby.
Hi looks thrilled at the sight of Hitler. Hi clicks his
heels and gives the Nazi salute.
HI
Heil, mein Führer!
Hitler just stares.
HI (cont'd)
It's an honor to meet you, mein
Führer. An absolute honor. I've
been an admirer of yours since -
well, since I read about the Beer
Hall Putsch of nineteen twenty
three. I've been an admirer of
your officers too - the kind of
guys you have around you. That's
what I want to be. There's nothing
like being a Nazi. Right, guys?
Especially the nocturnal kind.
HITLER
How did you know we were here?
As Hi pulls up a chair to the desk:
HI
Well you see, mein Führer - Oh.
May I sit down?
No response. As Hi sits down:
HI (cont'd)
You see, mein Führer, I have the
reputation - I assume they told you
my name, it's Hickenlooper. Hi.
Hitler seems not to know if that's a name or a greeting.
HITLER
Hi.
HI
I have the reputation - well
earned, I might add - of knowing
the Amazon jungle better than any
other fellow alive. So well, in
fact, that the Western intelligence
folks wanted me to help find you.
Well I've found you, but not to
help them. I'm here on my own.
They don't even know where I am.
Hitler continues to stare.
HI (cont'd)
You can imagine my excitement when
they told me the story - you being
alive, a vampire here in the jungle.
HITLER
And why are you here?
HI
I want to be a part of it. I
want to be a part of your team.
Hitler stares. Then his eyes, as Hi notes, move to the seeds
and photo on his desk.
HI (cont'd)
I know a bag of seeds, mein Führer,
may not look like much of a gift.
But it's a token of my sincerity.
Hi pulls his chair closer.
HI (cont'd)
These are seeds, mein Führer,
of the Dracaena palm. It means
dragon. The picture is of the
plant full grown. The ancient
Greeks named this plant in honor
of vampires. It makes a great
house plant.
DORSCH
Mein Gott!
Hitler flinches at Dorsch's sudden outburst.
DORSCH (cont'd)
He is right, mein Führer. The
castle of the Countess. That is
where I saw that plant.
HI
Who's the Countess?
DORSCH
The Countess is a lady who -
KEGEL
(interrupting)
It's none of his business who the
Countess is!
HI
I know you like symbols, mein
Führer - the swastika and all.
I thought you might like to spruce
the place up with some plants
virtually named in your honor.
Hitler rises. He thoughtfully paces.
HI (cont'd)
I'm sorry if you don't like the
plant, mein Führer. I could have
brought a cake, but I was afraid it
might get squashed when I landed.
HITLER
So you want to be a part of my team.
Hi rises eagerly.
HI
Yes, mein Führer.
HITLER
You want to be a vampire.
HI
Very much so. I'd be eternally
grateful.
HITLER
And what have you to offer? Besides
a bag of seeds.
HI
Knowledge, mein Führer. My unrivaled
knowledge of this jungle that serves
as your refuge. I can serve as your
eyes, your ears, as the need may
arise. And a fortune. I am the sole
heir of Hickenlooper Foods, one of the
largest food companies in America.
Every penny shall be at your disposal,
as soon as my father is gone. All I
ask in return, mein Führer, is the
opportunity to serve you. Forever.
HITLER
What do you think, Herr Dorsch?
Herr Kegel?
KEGEL
This food-giant father of yours.
How well is he?
HI
He's got a bad heart. He could go
any day.
DORSCH
There is much food for thought here.
KEGEL
May we suggest a trial period for Herr
Hickenlooper? Probationary status.
DORSCH
Subject, of course, to immediate
termination.
KEGEL
Such as a dip in our pool.
Hitler thinks. As he moves back to his desk:
HITLER
You are accepted, Herr Hickenlooper,
on a provisional basis.
HI
Thank you, mein Führer.
HITLER
Your knowledge, not to mention your
fortune, may indeed come in handy.
HI
What a moment. I can't tell you
how much this means, I -
KEGEL
(interrupting)
Then don't. You have taken enough
of the Führer's time.
Hi, clicking his heels, salutes Hitler again.
HI
Heil, mein Führer.
Hitler half-salutes, sits down, his eyes on some paperwork.
Hi looks at the seeds on the desk, starts to say something,
then seems to think better of it.
Hi turns toward the door, Dorsch moving to follow.
HITLER
Herr Hickenlooper . . .
Hi stops and turns. Hitler has picked up the photo.
HITLER (cont'd)
I do like the plant. It's a very
nice touch. Why did no one tell me
before of this palm of the dragon?
Kegel and Dorsch look at each other.
KEGEL
Well? Why didn't you tell him?
DORSCH
Because - because I thought that
you would.
HI
(to Dorsch)
But you didn't know. When I asked
you, you -
DORSCH
(interrupting)
I did know.
KEGEL
So did I.
HI
(to Dorsch)
You didn't know.
DORSCH
Did know.
HI
Didn't.
DORSCH
Did!
HI
Didn't!
HITLER
(thinking back)
No, Dorsch, you didn't.
Dorsch and Kegel glance apprehensively at each other.
HITLER (cont'd)
(still thinking)
No, you couldn't even remember
where you -
Kegel and Dorsch become completely evasive:
KEGEL
(to Dorsch, with
(a nod toward Hi)
Take him out.
HITLER
Neither one of you knew.
DORSCH
(to Kegel)
I am taking him out.
HITLER
You showed me this photo, and -
KEGEL
(to Dorsch)
You know where to take him.
HITLER
You said, "It's some kind of plant,"
and -
DORSCH
(to Hi)
You come with me.
HITLER
- and then -
KEGEL
(to Dorsch)
When you take him there, be -
HITLER
(screaming it)
Wait!
Dorsch and Kegel snap to attention. Hitler struggles to
control himself.
HITLER (cont'd)
I will tell you when to take the
man out!
DORSCH
I thought, mein Führer, that Herr
Hickenlooper's visit was over.
HITLER
It was not!
(to Hi)
You are in charge of the plants'
cultivation.
HI
Thank you, mein Führer.
HITLER
(to Dorsch)
See that he has his own room in
Gebaüde Zwei, and a table to
work on.
DORSCH
I will, mein Führer. Is that all?
Kegel is staring at Hi with resentment - till Hitler makes
Kegel jump:
HITLER
Don't just stand there, Kegel!
Give our new Schütze his seeds!
INT. CORRIDOR - GEBAÜDE EIN - NIGHT (LATER)
Dimly lit by wall lamps. Hi and Dorsch are walking. Hi has
his haversack and bag of seeds. Dorsch looks miffed.
HI
Where are we going?
DORSCH
To your initiation, Herr Hickenlooper.
You are going to have a fun evening.
Moving off, they pass a sturdy SS UNTERSTURMFÜHRER (second
lieutenant) walking the other way.
As they pass, Hi seems to recognize the Untersturmführer with
apprehension, Dorsch not noticing.
The Untersturmführer stops and turns, to look off after Hi.
It's Wolfgang.
INT. AN APARTMENT - GEBAÜDE EIN - NIGHT
Outside, Dorsch opens the door, gestures for Hi to enter. Hi
comes in, haversack under arm. Dorsch leaves.
The place is sparsely romantic, with lit candles, scarlet
drapes, some nice bamboo furniture, an oil painting, a well
pillowed bed.
Hi gazes at a WOMAN in a nightgown. She is lounging on a
loveseat, her features obscured beyond the flickering light.
She rises, walks over to Hi.
COUNTESS
I am Countess Borca. I am in
charge of all initiations.
Hi seems glad to hear it.
HI
Initiate me.
INT. THE APARTMENT - NIGHT
Hi and the Countess are in bed, making love. She sits up in
Hi's arms. Her lips part, revealing sharp canines.
She sinks them into Hi's neck, blood streams down his back.
EXT. THE JUNGLE - DAY
Sunrise.
INT. BATHROOM - COUNTESS'S APARTMENT - DAY
Hi, in undershorts, looks at the holes in his neck at a
cabinet mirror. Then he looks at his teeth, which still
appear normal.
Hi suddenly registers surprise. His reflection in the mirror
has vanished. Hi opens the cabinet, as if his reflection
might be inside.
He shuts the cabinet, looks again at his non-reflection.
Hi sighs with ambivalence as he turns toward the door.
INT. APARTMENT - DAY
Hi, donning an undershirt, comes out of the bathroom.
The Countess, in her nightgown, is taking something out of
the closet.
HI
Well, I guess that's it. I'm a
vampire.
COUNTESS
How do you feel?
HI
Kind of sleepy. And I've got this
tingling in my teeth.
COUNTESS
That is good.
The Countess has taken an SS outfit - black shirt and
breeches - from the closet.
Hi is about to put on a regular shirt.
COUNTESS (cont'd)
No.
She takes Hi's shirt and tosses it aside. As she helps him
on with the new one:
COUNTESS (cont'd)
Now you wear the black shirt of the
Schutzstaffel.
Hi can see that her heart isn't in this. As he begins
buttoning the shirt, she gestures toward the breeches laid
aside:
COUNTESS (cont'd)
Here are the breeches. Your S.S.
dagger and boots are in the closet.
She moves off.
INT. THE APARTMENT - DAY (TWO MINUTES LATER)
Hi, breeches on, is getting on the second boot. The Countess
sits on the loveseat, lost in thought.
HI
What happens now?
COUNTESS
(rising)
They will come for you.
The Countess moves to a window, looks sadly out.
Hi, boots on, regards her as he adjusts his SS dagger. Then
he walks over to her.
HI
Countess Borca, do you ever dream
of going home to Romania?
She looks at him with surprise. And suspicion.
HI (cont'd)
Maybe I can help you get back.
COUNTESS
Why do you say this? Who are you?
HI
Hi Hickenlooper, German American.
You can trust me. Would you like
to go home?
COUNTESS
Of course. What do you think I am
but a prisoner here?
HI
Do you ever get out? Why not just
fly away?
COUNTESS
In which direction? Where are we?
They mock me. There is a rear door
to this building, only a few feet
from here. It is like they are
saying, "A hostage? No, you can
walk right out." But to where? In
the daytime no vampire can fly.
And at night Schützes take to the
air, on patrol. Do you see? They
dare me to try to escape. And if
I were caught, the stake.
HI
I'm your ticket to Romania. I'm
here to get Hitler. And every
Schutzstaffel dog in this jungle.
Are you with me?
COUNTESS
Yes.
They hear Dorsch (o.s.) loudly greet someone outside.
HI
Where can I find Eva Perón?
There are knocks at the door.
DORSCH (O.S.)
(filtered)
Herr Hickenlooper!
COUNTESS
Down the hall, on the right.
The door opens, Dorsch enters.
HI
Good morning.
Hi picks up his haversack. He looks at the Countess.
HI (cont'd)
Thanks for the initiation.
COUNTESS
You are welcome.
Hi exits. Dorsch lingers, smiling at the Countess, who looks
at him with contempt.
INT. CORRIDOR - DAY
Hi, waiting for Dorsch, notes the rear door that the Countess
referred to, a few feet away at the end of the corridor.
Hi steps over, quietly unlatches it, and gets back just
before Dorsch comes out of the Countess's quarters.
As Dorsch closes the Countess's door:
HI
Where to now?
DORSCH
To your room. Gebaüde Zwei.
Dorsch looks toward the rear door.
HI
This door?
Dorsch heads the other way.
DORSCH
No, that door must stay latched.
Hi follows Dorsch.
HI
Whatever you say.
EXT. NEUANFANG - DAY (LATER)
All is quiet. Four SCHÜTZES patrol the jungle-walled
perimeter at evenly spaced intervals.
INT. HI'S ROOM - FIRST FLOOR, GEBAÜDE ZWEI - DAY
Hi lies thinking in a cheap coffin with loose padding, his
haversack under his head.
The room has bare walls, an old bamboo chair, and a chipped
wooden stool. The only thing that looks new is a table.
All is quiet. Hi gets out of the coffin and tiptoes to the
door to look out.
INT. THE CORRIDOR - GEBAÜDE ZWEI - DAY
Slipping out of his room, Hi moves stealthily along the
corridor.
Other SCHÜTZES, asleep in cheap coffins or crates, can be
seen and heard snoring through the open doors of their
bare-walled rooms.
INT. CORRIDOR - GEBAÜDE EIN - DAY
The door unlatched earlier opens, and Hi stealthily enters,
closing it behind him. Moving past the Countess's door, Hi
proceeds toward:
INT. EVA'S QUARTERS - DAY
Hi quietly enters and closes the door.
There are nice drapes, some mahogany and rosewood furnishings,
bamboo mats.
Going to her open coffin, Hi looks down at sleeping Eva,
lovely in a white nightgown. He kisses her. She awakes.
EVA
Hi!
HI
Hello, Eva.
He helps her sit up, they embrace.
HI (cont'd)
I'm going to get you out of this
place. Just don't let 'em know
that you know me.
She looks at him questioningly, touches his face.
EVA
Hi, you're - ?
HI
A vampire, yeah. I hope you don't
mind that I slept with the Countess
last night.
EVA
You mean you made love?
HI
Isn't that part of the initiation?
EVA
She is only required to bite.
HI
You mean I've been raped?
(beat)
Were you initiated? Did you sleep
with her too?
EVA
I slept with Hitler. Sad to say.
HI
Listen, there's one problem.
Wolfgang knows I'm here. What
do we do about that?
EVA
We'll have to think of something.
Oh Hi, how could you let yourself
become a vampire too?
HI
Don't worry, I'm counting on a
cure. For both of us, once we
get out of here.
EVA
A cure?
HI
Yeah. Wait till you hear what it is.
EVA
Tell me. Please.
Someone knocks on the door. Eva gestures toward the closet.
Hi heads for it.
INT. CLOSET - DAY
Hi enters, leaving the door cracked open.
INT. EVA'S QUARTERS - DAY
Eva opens the door to the corridor. There stands Wolfgang,
in his Untersturmführer garb.
EVA
Yes?
WOLFGANG
Mein Frau, I must speak with you.
EVA
Then come back at a decent hour.
She tries to close the door, but Wolfgang blocks it. He
enters, closing the door, as Eva steps back.
WOLFGANG
I must speak with you now.
INTERCUT: INT. CLOSET - DAY
Hi is listening.
EVA
Who do you think you are, barging
in like this?
WOLFGANG
As always, I am a man with your
interests in mind.
EVA
What are you talking about?
WOLFGANG
You will never guess, mein Frau,
who I saw last night, being
escorted to the Countess.
EVA
I'm sure I could never guess.
WOLFGANG
Hi Hickenlooper - the friend in
Buenos Aires whom you had me fetch
for you.
EVA
Really?
WOLFGANG
Why has he come here? Only for love
would someone take such a risk.
He's crowding her, Eva tries to turn away, he grabs her arm,
pulls her to him.
WOLFGANG (cont'd)
It is my duty, of course, to have
the Führer informed.
(slipping an arm
around her waist)
I could be persuaded, however,
to keep your acquaintance
confidential.
He tries to kiss her. She knees him in the groin, steps back.
EVA
Swine! How dare you come into
my quarters, in the dead of day,
thinking I would yield to such
blackmail.
WOLFGANG
But you will yield, liebe Frau.
Wolfgang's mad, begins using force, Eva struggling.
WOLFGANG (cont'd)
Would you dare to scream for help?
Could you deny what I would then
tell the Führer? You must think of
your friend if not of yourself.
END INTERCUT, as Hi slaps a hand on Wolfgang's shoulder.
Wolfgang turns, releasing Eva, and Hi slugs him in the nose.
Wolfgang staggers backwards to the wall.
Wiping blood from his nose, Wolfgang glares at Hi, who waits
for Wolfgang to counter.
HI
It's a fair fight now, Wolfie.
WOLFGANG
Hickenlooper. Did you know -
(draws his dagger)
- that a Schutzstaffel dagger in
the heart is as good as a stake?
HI
Yeah?
Hi draws his dagger and gets set to fight.
HI (cont'd)
Vampires shouldn't walk around with
'em. They might trip.
Wolfgang moves toward Hi.
WOLFGANG
They are needed. For vampires
like you.
Wolfgang and Hi thrust with their daggers and grapple. They
fall against the wall in a clinch.
Eva watches fearfully, Wolfgang's back to her. The two men
stop grappling, as apparently one has been stabbed.
Wolfgang turns away from Hi. Hi's dagger is stuck in
Wolfgang's profusely bleeding chest. Wolfgang teeters,
dropping his dagger.
HI
So long, Wolfie. It's been a real
displeasure.
Wolfgang falls, dead or dying. Hi now seems unsure what to
do. Eva's in an emotional state.
EVA
It took all I could do not to scream.
Hi reacts, as if knowing now what to do.
HI
Scream now. As loud as you can.
INT. HITLER'S QUARTERS - DAY
Hitler, in white pajamas with little swastikas on them, wakes
in his coffin, sits up, at the sound of Eva (o.s.) screaming
downstairs.
INT. KEGEL'S QUARTERS - DAY
Kegel, in uniform, sits up in his coffin too, anxiously
starts to get out, Eva (o.s.) screaming down the hall.
INT. DORSCH'S QUARTERS - DAY
Uniformed Dorsch - too hurried, Eva (o.s.) screaming - tips
over his coffin and falls.
INT. EVA'S QUARTERS - DAY
Hitler enters in robe and pajamas. Kegel and Dorsch are
already present. Hi looks physically, Eva emotionally spent.
Hitler, glancing down at Wolfgang's bloody corpse, goes to
Eva.
EVA
I'm all right.
HITLER
What has happened here?
HI
I heard this lady scream, so I
rushed right in. She was being
attacked by this, uh -
KEGEL
Untersturmführer.
HI
Whatever. He came at me with his
dagger.
EVA
(gesturing toward Hi)
This man fought so bravely.
As Hitler points down at Wolfgang:
HITLER
This despicable vermin is the same
Untersturmführer who was assigned
to protect you. Do you see, you
Argentine firecracker, what happens
when you go galavanting outside of
this jungle? This Untersturmführer
had the uncontrollable hots!
As Eva again gestures toward Hi:
EVA
Then I have a new protector. Who
is he?
Hitler walks over to Hi, and looks at him sternly.
HITLER
What were you doing in Gebaüde Ein?
Kegel steps to Hitler's shoulder and looks hard at Hi.
KEGEL
Yes. What is your explanation?
Dorsch steps to Hitler's other shoulder and glares at Hi.
DORSCH
What were you doing in Gebaüde Ein?
Hitler looks at the two Obergruppenführers crowding his
shoulders.
HITLER
Dorsch, go get some Schützes to
clean up this mess.
DORSCH
Shall we save all the blood, sir?
Hitler gives him a distasteful look. Dorsch gets going.
Hitler and Kegel return their attention to Hi.
KEGEL
You were saying?
HI
To tell you the truth, I was coming
to see the Countess. But it's not
what you think. I need her advice
or something. I'm afraid that
last night - well, it may not have
taken.
HITLER
You are still not a vampire?
KEGEL
What makes you think that?
HI
I've got this craving for a big
plate of sauerkraut and a stein
of cold beer.
KEGEL
You had better see the Countess.
HI
(to Hitler)
I didn't want to tell you. I don't
want to disappoint you, I -
HITLER
(interrupting)
Do not worry. Remember, Schütze,
there is always some period of
adjustment.
INT. THE TRINK HALL - NIGHT
SS MEN sit on benches, silently sharing two bottles of blood -
each man pouring a glass, passing the bottle, and drinking.
Hi drinks when his turn comes, the Nazis watching him. He
nods approvingly.
HI
Not bad.
INT. HITLER'S QUARTERS - NIGHT (A MONTH LATER)
Hi takes a potted Dracaena seedling from a boxful and puts it
on a table. SUPERIMPOSE:
THE 30TH DAY
Hitler steps over to look at the plant, while Dorsch, who has
apparently escorted Hi, stands nearby.
HITLER
It doesn't look like much of a
plant.
HI
It's only a seedling, mein Führer.
Give it time. In another, oh,
ninety days, you're going to see
some kind of change.
HITLER
You are a confident fellow. You
see a plant, you know what you
want to get out of it.
HI
I certainly do.
HITLER
I like that, Hickenlooper. You are
being promoted.
Dorsch, behind Hitler's back, rolls his eyes.
HI
Already?
HITLER
From Schütze to Oberschütze.
Keep up the good work.
HI
Thank you, mein Führer.
INT. CORRIDOR - GEBAÜDE VIER - NIGHT
With his box of seedlings Hi steps to the door labeled BLOOD
FACTORY and opens it.
INT. THE BLOOD FACTORY - NIGHT
Oberführer Frankel and Oberschütze Spitz are busy with
paperwork at their desks.
Hi steps to Frankel's desk with his box of seedlings.
FRANKEL
Schütze Hickenlooper.
HI
(correcting him)
Oberschütze.
Frankel, misunderstanding, looks offended. As he gestures
toward Spitz:
FRANKEL
He is the Oberschütze. I am
Oberführer Frankel.
HI
No. I'm an Oberschütze. You
called me Schütze.
FRANKEL
You are an Oberschütze?
HI
I am.
SPITZ
Already?
HI
(to Frankel)
Where do you want your Dracaena
palm?
FRANKEL
My what?
HI
I'm delivering plants.
A CAPTIVE (o.s.) begins wailing deliriously.
Spitz rises, grabs a vial and syringe from supplies on a
table, and heads toward the cells. As Frankel follows:
FRANKEL
Excuse me.
HI
Take your time.
Frankel moves off.
Left alone, Hi steps to the table. He swipes a vial and one
of several empty syringes, slipping them into a pocket. He
pockets two more vials from a wastebasket.
Hi now begins walking along the cells, looking with curiosity
and dismay at the various captives, as the wailing continues
down the row.
Hi stops, registering surprise at one occupant.
INT. CROWLEY'S CELL - NIGHT
Crowley, looking half-dead on his bunk, is amazed to see Hi
outside the bars.
CROWLEY
Hickenlooper.
HI
Hello, Crowley.
CROWLEY
We beat you to it. We found this
place first.
HI
Is your partner Bates here too?
CROWLEY
He was. They did something with
him.
HI
Well hang on, pal. I'm going to
have all of you out of here in about
ninety days. Can you make it?
CROWLEY
I'll be a ninety-day wonder if I do.
HI
You can make it. See ya later.
INT. THE "KITCHEN" - GEBAÜDE VIER - NIGHT
Obersturmbannführer (Lt. Col.) MÜLLER, about 50, is transferring
bottles of blood from a receiving counter (where blood is piped
in from the factory next door) to a refrigerator.
The reserved, intelligent-looking Müller notes Hi and Frankel
enter through the door from the factory, Hi carrying his box.
FRANKEL
Obersturmbannführer Müller, our
Yankee friend has a plant for you.
MÜLLER
A plant?
HI
The dragon's palm. The house
plant of vampires. Where would
you like it?
Müller nods toward a counter by the fridge.
MÜLLER
There, I suppose.
As Hi moves to the counter:
HI
So this is where the blood's kept,
eh? You're really going to love
your Dracaena.
Hi sets a plant on the counter. He heads back toward the
door with his box.
HI (cont'd)
When it's bigger you'll see. It's
a beautiful palm.
MÜLLER
I can't wait to see it.
HI
You'll get a bang out of it.
(clicks his heels)
Heil Hitler.
Hi exits with Frankel.
Müller looks at the seedling. He seems to suspect something,
if he only knew what to suspect.
INT. CORRIDOR - GEBAÜDE DREI - NIGHT
Carrying his box of seedlings, Hi stops at a door labeled
MUNITIONS. He opens it.
INT. MUNITIONS - NIGHT
A strapping SS ROTTENFÜHRER (corporal), 35, clipboard in
hand, is doing inventory as Hi enters.
Tables and shelves in the large room hold a variety of
weapons and equipment, from gas masks to bazookas.
Hi looks around at the arsenal as he walks over to the
Rottenführer. The Nazi looks at Hi's box.
ROTTENFÜHRER
What is this?
HI
I'm delivering plants.
ROTTENFÜHRER
Get them out of here.
HI
The Führer wants these plants all
around. Shall I tell him you -
ROTTENFÜHRER
(interrupting)
I said give them here.
A tug-of-war ensues as the Rottenführer tries to wrest the
box from Hi.
HI
You can only have one plant.
ROTTENFÜHRER
I want the whole box.
HI
You can't have it.
ROTTENFÜHRER
Give it here.
HI
I'm in charge of these plants.
ROTTENFÜHRER
Give me this box.
HI
No. You -
ROTTENFÜHRER
(interrupting)
What is your rank?
A beat. Hi lets him take the box.
HI
Oberschütze. I will have to report
this. What is your rank?
A beat. The Rottenführer grudgingly lets Hi have the box back.
ROTTENFÜHRER
Rottenführer.
HI
"Rottenführer"? Talk about qualified.
Hi takes a seedling from the box.
HI (cont'd)
Here's your plant.
The Rottenführer resentfully takes it. He sets the plant on a
table, then looks again at his clipboard. His back is to Hi.
ROTTENFÜHRER
I won't forget this, Oberschütze.
Hi, heading toward the door, stealthily picks up a gas mask
and slips it into his box.
HI
You just keep track of this
inventory and everything'll
be all right.
EXT. THE HICKENLOOPER MANSION - NORTH FLORIDA - DAY
ESTABLISHING SHOT. OVERLAP SOUND:
EDGAR (V.O.)
I don't believe it.
INT. A SITTING ROOM - THE MANSION - DAY
EDGAR HICKENLOOPER, 60-ish, imposing, looks stunned as he
paces, while Diego, in a white suit, is calmly seated.
There's a PARROT in a cage, and a large picture of Machu
Picchu on the wall.
EDGAR (cont'd)
My son Hiram a vampire? But he's
never been in trouble before. Now
he's running around with Hitler?
DIEGO
All according to plan, Mister
Hickenlooper. If it works, Hi
will be the greatest unsung hero
of the century. Can you supply
what he's asked for?
EDGAR
Of course.
PARROT
Let's go find a lost city.
EDGAR
This vampire cure - you say there's
a cure?
PARROT
Get off your ass, Hi.
DIEGO
Yes. We think so.
Diego chuckles. The parrot laughs.
EDGAR
Why are you laughing?
DIEGO
Wait till you hear what it is.
EXT. NEUANFANG - DAY
Quiet, four Schützes patrolling the perimeter. SUPERIMPOSE:
THE 119TH DAY
