Ruth came from Moab, she told Naomi
"Whither thou goest I go"
She was Naomi's daughter-in-law
Both were now widows, and so

Ruth started gleaning grain in the fields
Where Boaz's workers would reap
Boaz was smitten, and waking one night
Who should he find at his feet

The lady who lay there was Ruth
Boaz could hardly believe it was true
In moonlight aglow
That night long ago
The lady who lay there was Ruth

Her husband died childless, by Hebrew law
A kinsman should marry the wife
Ruth was proposing, for Boaz was kin
Naomi told Ruth, "Go tonight"

The lady who lay there was Ruth
Boaz could hardly believe it was true
He planned right away
For their wedding day
The lady who lay there was Ruth

And their family tree was to bring
One day to Israel David the king

The lady who lay there was Ruth
Boaz could hardly believe it was true
She brought him her heart
If he'd do his part
The lady who lay there was Ruth

In moonlight aglow
That night long ago
The lady who lay there was Ruth

And Boaz was glad that Ruth told Naomi
"Whither thou goest I go"
