We Shall Dwell in the House of the Lord

Words and Music by Ron Ecker

Sung by Twila Powers

He came in for some shelter from the cold
Just like his clothes he looked worn out and old
As he sat dining there
On that soup-kitchen fare
He said I’ll tell you of the faith I hold

There’s a wondrous abode
At the end of the road
No more worries about room and board
When our wayfaring’s through
And those gates are in view
We shall dwell in the house of the Lord

He said the humblest home is no disgrace
If we live right we’ll earn that better place
For all we can’t afford
If we trust in the Lord
We’ll meet that house’s Master face-to-face

What a wondrous abode
At the end of the road
No more worries about room and board
When our story’s been told
When sweet Glory unfolds
We shall dwell in the house of the Lord

When things go wrong I often think about
That poor old fellow who was down and out
I’m sure he’s finally home
I wonder when I’ve gone
Will he show me around, I wouldn’t doubt

In that wondrous abode
At the end of the road
No more worries about room and board
When our wayfaring’s through
And those gates are in view
We shall dwell in the house of the Lord

When our story’s been told
When sweet Glory unfolds
We shall dwell in the house of the Lord
We shall dwell in the house of the Lord
